HISTORY
First settled in 1664, “Old Dartmouth” was a coastal farm town in the South Coast, Massachusetts area. With English immigrants taking over the land from the Native Americans, the town’s economy and size grew significantly. The town also acted as a “resort” for wealthy New England travelers who wanted to experience the best of both city and rural life.
Today, Somerset represents a classic New England town. With it’s “small town” feel, locals are prideful in their community without being too far to enjoy city amenities.

Dartmouth High School is the town’s only public high school. However, students also have the opportunity to attend Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fall River, MA or Bristol County Agricultural High School in Dighton, MA.
Montessori School of the Angels in Westport, MA, Connolly High School in Fall River, MA, and Bishop Stang High School in North Dartmouth, MA are all nearby charter schools that offer students a private education.

Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA is only a 10-15 minute drive. This 2 year college offers hundreds of certificate, trade, GED, and associate degree options. BCC also offers unique programs for those with special accommodations or in low-income households.
CULTURE/EVENTS
North and South Dartmouth are two very different feels. In the North area, you’ll find much more commercial and suburb neighborhoods. The Dartmouth Mall is a popular shopping mall that Massachusetts residents visit from all over.
The South side includes a lot more rural land. With a farm in almost every neighborhood, you’ll feel secluded enough to enjoy your privacy. However, a 10 minute car drive will bring you to the town’s main center, where hundreds shops line the infamous State Road.
